Bernard Stolar no more? While this may not pertain to RPGs much, I still thought it was worthy news. Bernard Stolar, has been removed of his position by Sega of America. He was the CEO of the company. Toshiro Kezuka will be taking his place.SAN FRANCISCO (August 4, 1999) -- Sega® of America, Inc. announced this afternoon that Toshiro Kezuka has been named vice-chairman and chief operating officer of the company, effective immediately. Kezuka succeeds Bernard Stolar. Effective August 11, 1999, Bernard Stolar is no longer with Sega of America. Kezuka will be supported by the executive management team of Sega of America which includes Peter Moore, SVP of marketing, Chris Gilbert, SVP of sales, Greg Thomas, VP of product development and Neal Robison, director of third party development. These key executives have been working together to ensure the success of the highly-anticipated Sega Dreamcast videogame console, which will be available at more than 15,000 retail outlets on September 9, 1999. Just last week, the company announced more than 200,000 pre-sale orders for Sega Dreamcast, breaking the current industry record set by Sony PlayStation. The company also announced a strategic alliance with AT&T, who's AT&T WorldNet® Service will serve as the preferred Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the videogame machine. The launch, which is backed by a $100 million marketing campaign, is expected to be the most successful videogame hardware introduction in the history of the industry. Sega of America's nationwide broadcast and print advertising blitz began earlier this week. The company also announced the Sega Dreamcast Mobile Assault Tour this week which will bring the new system and games to more than 40 cities across the U.S. for consumer trials. Kezuka joined Sega of America in 1999 as deputy chairman. Prior to this, he served as a board member and head of domestic sales and distribution for Sega Enterprises, Ltd, since 1995. Previously, Kezuka was president at Honda France. He brings more than 20 years of consumer sales and marketing experience to Sega of America.
