There's nothing that can be written here that any of the other editors who have Mass Effect 2 on their top five haven't already written. The gameplay, storyline, dialogue, aesthetics are all superb, but it takes more than just good design to make a good game. Mass Effect 2 is far more than the sum of its individual parts, and anyone who disagrees likely hasn't played it for themselves yet - or only owns a PS3. In the case of the latter, PS3 owners will also be able to experience 2010's game of the year for themselves very soon. Bioware's still top of the line when it comes to RPGs, both Western and Eastern, and the sheer quality of their titles means that's not likely to change anytime soon. Bring on 2011 - and Mass Effect 3!
