Indie RPG of the Year - Millennium: A New Hope |
2009 saw a high quantity of independently developed (indie) RPG releases. What we at RPGFan did not expect was that so many of these releases were high quality as well. From 2005's Aveyond to now, the quality of commercial RPG Maker releases has gone up dramatically and other indie developers are creating solid RPGs using their own proprietary engines. One indie JRPG even made it onto the Nintendo DS in '09 and we hope to see the indie RPG trend grow and improve. Anyway, RPGFan's favorite independently developed game of 2009 was Millennium: A New Hope by Aldorlea Games. Aldorlea is one of the most prolific developers of commercial RPG Maker titles and with Millennium, they hit upon something special. Beyond the beautiful art direction, lush musical score, fun gameplay, and cool heroine whom players would readily journey with, is that intangible "mojo" that all gamers look for in their games. A New Hope is only the first of five planned episodes in the Millennium saga, and we at RPGFan look forward to future episodes. Runner-up: Fading Hearts |
