Happy Memorial Day!
05.27.19 - 4:56 PM

Welcome to the latest installment of Coming This Week! We here at RPGFan would like to wish you and yours a happy Memorial Day. I'm sure you have grilling to do and fireworks to set off, but in the meantime there are new video game releases to talk about. So let's get into it!

Vambrace: Cold Soul Screenshot

Vambrace: Cold Soul - May 28th (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Our first entry, Vambrace: Cold Soul, draws inspiration from a robust well of franchises including Castlevania, The Elder Scrolls, and modern-day roguelikes. Players assume the role of Evelia Lyric, who is the only person capable of entering the cursed city of Icenaire. The city has fallen under a curse from the King of Shades, turning all of its residents into the living dead. To avoid a similar fate, you'll need to employ strategy and be well prepared for the game's challenges. There is a console release arriving later this year, as well.

Hey, quick question: do you like loot drops? Do you like so many loot drops that you can barely tell whats happening on screen? If so, Lapis X Labyrinth might be the game for you. From the RPG maestros over at Nippon Ichi Software, Lapis X Labyrinth tasks players with saving a local town from bankruptcy. And what better way to do that than to go out and adventure? The game hits PS4 and Switch this Tuesday.

While we may have never gotten a full version of Silent Hills, the specter of its playable teaser has had a lasting effect on the horror genre. Navigating a twisted yet familiar environment, uncovering horrific secrets, and solving puzzles along the way is practically a genre staple at this point; the original Layers of Fear was one of the torchbearers for this new era. Now, Layers of Fear 2 is set to make its debut on PC platforms this Tuesday.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls Screenshot

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls - May 29th (Windows)

Who's ready for a dungeon crawl? On the 29th, you can enjoy the title that modernized the Wizardry series as it releases on PC. Build your team and explore a nicely modern-looking trek through the dangerous underworld. This version, beyond including over 100 distinct monsters to contend with, includes a Turbo Mode to make your ventures slightly easier and all the story DLC. It's always satisfying to watch your party rise from humble beginnings to powerful, seasoned adventurers, so try it out. For reference, read our review for the previous version.

House in Fata Morgana Screenshot

The House in Fata Morgana - May 31st (PS4, Vita)

Man, this is a heck of a week for adventure games and horror, eh? The House in Fata Morgana is a gothic horror story that debuted on PC last year, and is now making its way to the PlayStation 4 and Vita family. Players will uncover the tragic stories that occur behind the various doors of the titular mansion, in a tale that stretches across numerous points in history.

SteamWorld Quest Screenshot

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech - May 31st (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Finally, we have SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, which recently came out on the Nintendo Switch. The game hits Windows, Mac, and Linux this Friday, bringing the card-infused steampunk antics of this charming RPG to an even wider audience. We have a review from Johnathan Logan if you'd like to know more, along with an all-new video review: be sure to check them out!

And that's a wrap for this week, folks! As always, keep an eye on RPGFan for more ongoing RPG coverage. Now, if you'll excuse me, this corn on the cob isn't going to eat itself.
