Falcom has announced a brand-new entry in their celebrated Ys series. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will release in Japan next year for PlayStation 4, and is set in a place called Baldeux. Players will strive to uncover the mysteries surrounding the "Prison City" and the mysterious supernatural entities known as Monstrum.

Traditional series elements such as its fast-paced action combat will return, with the addition of "supernatural actions" that can be used for exploration, as well as "Guild Operations" inside Prison City. Below, you can find an official synopsis of Ys IX from Nihon Falcom. Check out our gallery for new images.

Ys IX Monstrum Nox Announced PlayStation 4

Who are the "Monstrum" that have appeared in the city? What is the secret behind "Prison City?" And what of that redheaded adventurer Adol Christin?

I became someone other than myself. Have you ever that kind of dream?

I think about myself in that dream. Is this me, or is this not me?

Are dreams reality, or are reality dreams? I’ve reached an awfully simple answer.

"Whichever is fine."

Which is true—or which is not true. Both are reality.
