The wild west of role-playing games.
10.22.18 - 10:46 PM

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out this week, and I know that several members of our staff are excited to dive into Rockstar's latest. But we're not here to talk about that: Red Dead Redemption isn't an RPG! Well... okay, you play a role, but I digress. There are some neat releases this week that do fall within our coverage, so let's get cracking.

Disgaea 5 Complete - PC (October 22nd)

Disgaea 5 Complete hit Nintendo Switch last year, and now it's (finally) time for PC gamers to get in on the strategy RPG action, following a delay from its planned May release. It's been a long wait, but this DLC-included 'Complete' release will let you conquer the Netherworld in the dark shoes of Void Dark.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales - PC (October 23rd)

CD Projekt Red struck gold when they acquired the license to Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher novels, going on to craft a series of phenomenal role-playing games and a card-based spinoff, Gwent. Now, Gwent is getting a single-player experience of its own. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales brings a more story and puzzle focused spin to the card game shenanigans of Gwent; fans of The Witcher will likely find this a worthwhile endeavor. Thronebreaker will venture onto PCs on the 23rd.

The Greater Good - PC (October 23rd)

In terms of indie releases, we have The Greater Good arriving on October 23rd. This game is a cinematic RPG from music producer EnrightBeats. Control heroic soldier Flint in a stylized 3D world as he battles (and maybe platforms a little) to save the kingdom. And, of course, enjoy a carefully crafted soundtrack along with it. All the more impressive given its general one-person development. Watch for our upcoming review!

Skyhill - PS4, XB1 (October 24th)

Here's a "point and survive" game where you manage resources and escape from the top of a hotel in a post-apocalyptic setting. If that sounds good, Daedalic Entertainment is bringing exactly that to consoles this week. It's an interesting combination of genres and gameplay elements: it also has a roguelike component because the hotel rooms are randomly generated.

Castlevania SOTN Screenshot

Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood - PS4 (October 26th)

Konami is acknowledging its storied game development history with Castlevania Requiem, a new collection containing the seminal Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and its predecessor, Rondo of Blood. While it's unfortunate that Symphony of the Night will be using its PSP retranslation instead of the narmy original (hey, it's goofy, but iconic), this is still an excellent opportunity to experience some of the best Castlevania games, whether you're a franchise veteran or a neophyte. But enough talk! Have at you (on Friday the 26th)!

And that's a wrap! Tune in next week for more of the latest RPG releases, and stay tuned to RPGFan for the latest and greatest of RPG coverage.

Updated 10/23/18: We mistakenly included Disgaea 1 Complete as releasing this week on Steam, when it is, in fact, four games later in the series. We have updated this story to properly list Disgaea 5 Complete, and we apologize for the confusion.
