Coming This Week, 10/15/18 [UPDATED]
Resonate with my dark soul.
10.15.18 - 9:21 PM

This week in RPG releases, we're getting another chance to experience some classics from the previous console generation. Of course, the Dark Souls games need no introduction: FromSoftware's breakout hit from last gen has seen a few rereleases over the years, but there's always room for one... or two more. Plus, an obscure tri-Ace release from a few years back is also getting another chance to resonate with audiences. [Editor's Note: har har.] So let's get into it!

Valkyria Chronicles - Switch (October 16th)

Was last month's release of Valkyria Chronicles 4 not enough to fill your Sega strategy RPG needs? Or was it a reminder that you really just wanted to play the original again? You're in luck, since this week marks the release of the first Valkyria Chronicles on the Nintendo Switch. While this edition isn't labeled as a remaster like the 2016 PS4 release, it does include all of the first game's DLC for it's low asking price of $19.99 USD, so it's hard to go wrong.

Resonance of Fate: 4K/HD Edition - PC, PS4 (October 18th)

Resonance of Fate was one of the more unique JRPGs from last gen, although its release was unfortunately overshadowed by the concurrent release of Final Fantasy XIII and cult favorite NieR. So, I'm really glad that this game is getting a second shot on PC and PS4: it's got a wonderful steampunk aesthetic, challenging and deep combat that lets the player pull off a ton of flashy maneuvers, loads of in-game costumes, and tri-Ace characters that aren't awful anime caricatures. The 4K/HD remaster will hit on Thursday.

Syberia 3 - Switch (October 18th)

Continue the adventure that started with a mysterious inventor and a search for the last mammoths... this time on the Switch. Exploring the beautiful environments and following the snow ostrich migration will no doubt be much easier on a portable platform. The score from a veteran of the Dragon Age and Fallout series is a bonus! It releases on October 18th.

Dark Souls: Remastered Screenshot

Dark Souls: Remastered - Switch (October 19th)

Dark Souls: Remastered hit other platforms earlier this year, but the Nintendo Switch version was unfortunately delayed. This portable rendition of FromSoftware's grim and gritty fantasy adventure (and, more importantly, the accompanying Knight Solaire amiibo) will finally be gracing Nintendo Switch this Friday. Praise the Sun! And if you're looking for another excuse to visit the realm of Lordran... or Drangleic...

Dark Souls Trilogy - PS4, XB1 (October 19th)

...well, if you own a modern console and have missed the Dark Souls boat up until this point, you can pick up the nifty Dark Souls Trilogy collection this Friday. This set comes with Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition, so you'll have access to all of the DLC from across the series in one lovely case. It's pretty nifty for collectors and newcomers alike.

And that's a wrap for this week! Stay tuned to RPGFan for the latest and greatest of RPG coverage, and we'll see you next time.

Note: This post was updated at 10/16/18 (2:15pm) to add Valkyria Chronicles.
