As previously reported, HD versions of Grandia and Grandia II are heading to Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, Grandia HD is joining Grandia II Anniversary Edition on Steam. Following up on this news, Game Informer visited GungHo and discussed further details about both titles.

Grandia HD

For Grandia, GungHo is improving the UI, sprites, and textures while including effects such as MSAA, bloom, normal mapping, and blur. The cinematic videos will also be enhanced. You will be able to experience the game in either English or Japanese. A digital game manual will also be included. Also, for the PC version, Grandia will include Steam cards, achievements, customizable resolution, and gamepad and keyboard support. The HD version utilizes both the original PS1 and Sega Saturn source codes.

For Grandia II, the details are more minor. Improving on the PC version, the game is switching to XInput to help fix some of the video and audio desync issues. A new option to exit to the title screen is also being added. Just like with Grandia, a digital manual will be included. Lastly, even though the game hasn't been confirmed for Japan, the Switch version will have the option for Japanese subtitles. The HD version is based on Grandia II Anniversary Edition, which in turn used the source code from the original Sega Dreamcast release.

Oddly enough, as of this writing, GungHo only plans on bringing the collection to North America and Europe, leaving Japanese players out in the cold. No release date has been given at this time, but we will keep you posted when we learn more details! In the meantime, check out our review for Grandia II Anniversary Edition for PC.
