Story Scenario: A New Day

The World Ends With You: Final Remix, at its forefront, is updating and adding an entirely new story scenario to the base game, known as 'A New Day', pitting Neku against a new element of danger within the world of Shibuya, and introducing a new character into the mix.

Hard Mode Activates!

The concept of 'A New Day' revolves around the idea of a Hard Mode activating within the Game (the main narrative obstacle The World Ends With You revolves around), transporting protagonist Neku into the middle of Shibuya Crossing, confused and lacking memories, with a familiar email bleeping onto his phone, proclaiming that the Game's Hard Mode has begun.

The scenario seems to be separate from the main narrative, with companions (Beat, Rhyme, and Shiki) competing and side character contemplating within and about the Hard Mode too. Check out some screenshots below!

A New Character: Coco

Unique to 'A New Day' is the smiling and fashionable Reaper known as Coco, sporting threads unique to Harajuku, an iconic and fashionable area within the realm of Tokyo. Calculating and cheerful, Coco is perfectly fine with barging into any conversation that she can see. Check out some key art and screenshots of her below!

Enemies Approach: New Noise

In 'A New Day', new variations of Noise (the standard enemies found in The World Ends With You) can be found, sporting a different appearance and color scheme of their standard counterparts, steeped in a rich purple. Check out the fierceness and fangs below!

Objectives Are Here: New Mission Types

To accompany the new Noise that players will have to contest against, a new gameplay mechanic known as 'Missions' will be present within 'A New Day' offering five different wrinkles for players to deal with in battle. Check out the specifics below!

Split Mission

Raven Ball Mission

(Neku must avoid a ball that will damage him that appears and stays during the course of battle.)

Curse Mission

(Neku's health will start to drain at the beginning of the battle, and continue to drain until victory or death.)

Sync Rave Mission

(The Sync Rate feature, built up over the battle, will be doubled.)

Restore Mission

(Neku's health will slightly heal after every successful hit on a Noise in battle.)

Interesting to note is that multiple mission effects may be added to the start of a battle simultaneously, adding a little bit more challenge to the fights and brawls against Noise within the Shibuya Streets

Rewards and Sundries: New Pins

And, what would a new scenario be without tangible rewards to help you in your journey throughout Shibuya? 'A New Day' has you covered with a confirmation that new Pins, the psychic abilities that Neku can wield to attack his enemies, will be available for players to earn and collect throughout their journey. Two Pins were revealed, in the information, and, man, they sport some beautiful designs. Check 'em out below!

Witchcraft

A Set Pin type. When slashing a Noise from top to bottom, Neku will do a downward thrust at an enemy, and unleash a circle of flames to damage nearby enemies. As it is a Set Pin, it must be combined with the effects of two other pins.

Tyrant Rakshasha

When this Pin is equipped, tapping on a Noise will cause sword of radiant light to fire in their direction in rapid succession. A powerful precision attack, and useful for pin-pointed, accurate strikes.

As it stands, 'A New Day' seems to incorporate a decent chunk of new content for newcomers to the title and veterans to sink their teeth into, and a story and mystery to uncover. But, that's not all that The World Ends With You: Final Remix has to offer, not by a long shot.

Co-Op in Shibuya: Local Multiplayer

A first for the series, and unique to the Nintendo Switch hardware, two players will be able to play together simultaneously in co-operative gameplay. Depending on what companion that is being used throughout the story, the second player will be able to utilize a second set of pins, unique to that character, by way of a second reticle that displays on the battle screen.

I Cannot Believe It's Back: Tin Pin Slammer

All of that info above notwithstanding, my heart in The World Ends With You is displayed in full force, with the inclusion of the minigame known as Pin Slammers. Neku, by way of explanation, is able to use the Pins gathered throughout the game in a marble-esque competition that has you trying to knock off the opponents' pins off a stage. Different pins denote different strategies, and Pin Slammers serves as a great side-distraction from the Game and the narrative itself. Check out some screenshots below!
