Spike Chunsoft has released a new trailer for the upcoming sim-RPG Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, detailing the characters that players will meet in their journey through a post-apocalyptic world. Check it out below!

As seen above, it seems the core conceit of the story and gameplay revolves around eight human clones that are afflicted with a short lifespan of 13 days. Seven of them represent both a job and one of the seven biblical sins, and the eighth, a girl, represents a sin known as the 'Original Sin', seemingly alluding to the idea of flaws being melded into the archetype of the characters within the story. Players must help these eight characters explore the ruins of a post-apocalyptic world, find out how and why the world ended up like this, and perhaps, how they're connected to it.

Spike Chunsoft has confirmed the game will be from the perspective of the clones players choose to inhabit, and that the gameplay loop will be survival in nature, keeping characters alive through micro-managing their health and biology while exploring the various ruins that crop up between their 13-day life cycles.

Supervised by producer Yoshinori Terasawa and creative director Takayuki Sugawara, creators of the acclaimed Danganronpa series, Zanki Zero: Last Beginnings seems to be an interesting take on the survival-RPG genre, and I'm intrigued to see the story that can be interwoven into such a conceit.
