And RPGFan's Game of the Year is...
01.28.18 - 4:44 PM

Did you really think it was going to be anything else but Persona 5? I mean, come on, you all saw this one coming. No, wait, don't start singing that song! Anyway, this week wasn't all Games of the Year 2017: we had news stories from Mike Salbato and Corey Hall, and reviews from Rob Rogan and Alana Hagues as well.

Feature by RPGFan Staff

Yes, it is that time of the year where the staff comes together to vote on which RPGs were truly the cream of the crop in 2017. We also tallied all of your reader votes in each category to see what readers thought really stood out last year. Some of the staff have also given out their own individual awards to their favorite games of the past year, so make sure you check them out as well.

Review by Alana Hagues

Ah, the SaGa series, a series that defines a love or hate relationship. Either you enjoy the difficulty, the weird mechanics, and the open-ended gameplay, or you think it's absolute rubbish and it needs to die in a fire. I feel like there is never a middle ground with these games. Check out Alana Hagues' review as she steps into the series for the first time.

Review by Rob Rogan

So many games lately are trying to capture the magic of the JRPGs of yesteryear, but many of them fall short. Is it because the genre can't go back to its roots? Have gamers moved past the simplicity of the older style, or is it something else? Hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but that didn't stop Legrand Legacy from trying. Rob Rogan has all the details you need on this crowdfunded game that tries to capture that JRPG magic from years ago.

Story by Mike Salbato

Speaking of games that are trying to capture that old-school JRPG goodness, Lost Sphear has hit store shelves this week. Early impressions from a lot of people are a very mixed bag, and it's hard to tell exactly if it will be worth your time and money yet. Our review is coming shortly, if you wish to wait just a little longer. So hang on tight if you are still on the fence about this one.

Story by Corey Hall

Oh, BioWare, you crafty developer...teasing us with the possibility of a new Dragon Age game while simultaneously telling us that Anthem is well on its way in development. Now I want both games, and I want them now. We also have a new addition to the news staff this week with our latest contributor, Corey Hall. I am sure you'll see a lot of him around.
