This VR spin-off is shaping up nicely.

When we first saw the surprising reveal of Monster of the Deep — a PlayStation VR spin-off of Final Fantasy XV's fishing game — in June, the game looked entertaining but a bit rough. Check out one of the initial screenshots:

Not bad, but not even near Final Fantasy XV's beta level of visuals. Compare that with the screens released this morning:

The level of improvements make the comparison like Noct... er, night and day. Unlike Pocket Edition, Monster of the Deep is a brand-new adventure, where you'll set out with Noctis and the bros for fishing adventures. And as you can see above, it looks like the in-depth character creation recently introduced for Final Fantasy XV's multiplayer Comrades update is included, so you can customize your character as you see fit.

Apparently there's more to the gameplay than we may have thought too: There's both a goal-oriented Story Mode, in which you're on a mission to track down the titular "Monster," along with a Free Fishing Mode that's more open-ended, with several challenges to conquer.

Finally, players who pre-order from the PlayStation Store will earn an exclusive dynamic PS4 theme, and an in-game Samurai outfit.

Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV is coming exclusively to PlayStation VR on November 21st.
