Kicking off their E3 livestream with a bang, Nintendo has released a new trailer and a fancy new title for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The new trailer shows off the amazing, natural world full of birds and beasts. I'm not gonna waste your time explaining it to you; just watch it for yourself. One of the most exciting things about the new gameplay is the emphasis on secondary weapons like the bow and a brand new spear!

In a recent interview with Game Informer, series producer, Eiji Aonuma confirmed that Link will be male. "For the type of Zelda that we’re making, and the fact that there is a princess Zelda and a Link, we just didn’t think that it was quite right," he said. When commenting on all the fan expectation for a female Link, Aonuma said, "A few years ago, I mentioned that it might not be Link in a trailer, and it kind of caught fire and people started to think that it may be a female Link, but that's definitely not what I had in mind. I was very surprised. I should be careful what I say."

Nintendo also shared a press release that explained the gameplay and the new take on dungeon design. The open-world map will be littered with over 100 Shrines of Trials which offer unique challenges and reward players with items and other things to make their journey more varied.
It seems like this new set up is replacing the traditional dungeon system of having several large dungeons fall of small, interconnected challenges that has been with the series since its beginnings.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Gameplay

The world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild aims to be as dynamic and unpredictable as its title would suggest. Link will have to worry about rainstorms as lighting may be attracted to his metallic weapons. Players will need to adapt to the situation at hand. Certain gear may be better suited to different environments. You'll explore the landscape by climbing towers, mountains and paragliding down into the wild.

Also announced were three new compatible amiibo: Archer (Link with a bow), Rider (Link on horseback) and Guardian (that awesome spider monster from the original trailer). Their functions weren't discussed but using the Wolf Link amiibo which came with the remastered version of Twilight Princess will summon him into the game to hunt and fight with you.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch simultaneously for Wii U and NX in 2017. Expect a preview from RPGFan once we go hands on at E3!
