Yuji Hori Shares Original Dragon Quest Design Documents
Sure gives you a new appreciation for standard graph paper.

The father of the Japanese role playing game, Yuji Hori, has recently unveiled some of his original design plans for the first Dragon Quest game from 1986. Most Japanese developers keep things very close to their chests so this kind of insight is especially noteworthy. They are really feeding into that nostalgia that I'm sure Square hopes to use to sell Dragon Quest Builders and other DQ titles in 2016, the year of the series' 30th anniversary.

These first two images show off a map of an early dungeon. The clear overlay was used to plan events and items throughout the dungeon.
