YS VIII Begins Washed Ashore On a Cursed Island

Within the pages of the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation are written the first details on Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. Ys VIII is the next entry in the long standing Nihon Falcom series that began way back in 1987 and is slated for a summer 2016 release window in Japan on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

Here is how the game will start:

In South Greek, in the waters of the Goethe Sea, Adol is aboard a passenger boat called “The Lombardy” heading from Xandria towards the continent of Eresia, when the the ship is attacked and sunk by a mysterious, large monster. When Adol wakes up on a sandy beach, he realizes he is on the cursed “Siren Island.”

In an interview with Dengeki, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo said that in addition to speedy, party based battles and various character skills, there will be a few new elements including a jump action, co-op and castaway system, and more. On the games island, players will have the ability to build a "Drifting Village" base that will allow them to rescue other castaways that drift ashore. "Counter-Attack Battles" will also occur where players must defend the base.

Kondo added that with the game's new setting, Siren Island, the team is being much more particular and detailed with the landscape, terrain, atmosphere, and more to create more depth to the world.

Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana comes out in Japan in summer 2016. If a western release date is revealed, we will let you know.
