These new designs have a distinct Japanese aesthetic.

Square Enix has, once again, taken to their Instagram page to show off some enemies in Final Fantasy XV. These latest two are particularly spooky and are sure to prove to be challenging foes for Prince Noctis and his entourage.

Take a look at this samurai fellow, Numb Blade. I'm getting a strong FFX Auron vibe from this guy; it must be the sword slung confidently over his shoulder.

Final Fantasy XV Numb Blade

The design of the Numb Blade by Chihiro Hashi has a Japanese touch as this character is modeled after samurai. For instance, look at the tied knot of the waist string — this particular way of tying a knot called a "ronin (masterless samurai) knot" is a representation of his social status as a poor ronin. As kimono and swords are not imaginary but rather they are traditional elements of the Japanese culture, we took great pains to create assets that are true to traditional structures by researching specialized books and carefully observing real swords. What monsters will lurk in the shadows tonight?

This sinister looking dude is known as a Naga. This beast looks like it would be right at home in a game like Bloodborne.

Final Fantasy XV Naga

This monster resides in the dark — a contrast to the wildlife monsters —and it is an FFXV-quality, realistic representation of Amano-san's original artwork. Art Director Tomohiro Hasegawa states that the most challenging thing in creating this asset was to make it look real while maintaining the coquettishly scary feel of Amano-san's original artwork. One wrong step could have turned being coquettishly scary into being very comical, we painstakingly worked to find the right balance. Look deep into its eyes for a haunting Halloween!

Get to know these creatures personally when Final Fantasy XV is released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016.
