Dark Souls III is Getting an MP Bar
And spells are getting tweaked as well!

Dark Souls III is going back to its roots...with magic. In a recent conversation with Game Informer, Hidetaka Miyazaki (the creator and director of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne) revealed that there will be changes to the magic system for the series third installment.

Dark Souls 3

Like the series' spiritual predecessor Demon's Souls, Dark Souls III will use an MP bar to show the player how much magic they have left. Players will be able to cast spells according to how much MP they have available to them, as each spell has a different MP casting cost. Spells will have additional unique requirements to cast as well. In the previous Dark Souls games, spells had a set amount of uses that could be refilled by resting at a bonfire.

Miyazaki also shared that his team at FromSoftware will be working on the spells themselves. Fire and Miracle spells are returning, among others, and will apparently be unique, allowing for greater character customization. There will be a new system with core spells having new elements to them.

While this spell customization tease is incredibly vague, I cannot wait to try out whatever new tweaks Miyazaki's team decides on between now and release. Seriously, this man's track record is astounding, he can do whatever he wants in my book.

Dark Souls III will be released in 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
