While Xenoblade Chronicles X has been commercially quite successful in Japan, it also has its share of criticisms. Some players mentioned that they missed the deep story that traditionally characterizes Xeno games, while others said the UI was difficult to use and battles were too complicated. Still others expressed frustration with the online play functions.

Xenoblade Chronicles X feedback

In the comment section for the game's guidebook, executive director Tetsuya Takahashi expressed his gratitude toward the fans and said that he agreed with much of the feedback. He said that while the game was limited somewhat by the size of the development team, Monolith Soft would continue to apply the lessons learned on Xenoblade Chronicles X to its next project.

Meanwhile, Xenoblade Chronicles X comes out in the West this December on the Wii U.
