Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Opening Cinematic Reveal
Also some juicy new info for the expansion.
04.11.15 - 2:39 PM

During the Letter from the Producer Live Part XX, Square Enix released more details on the upcoming expansion Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, including the full opening cinematic for the game. Be warned the cinematic contains spoilers for the end of the A Realm Reborn storyline from patch 2.55. You can check out the trailer below.

If that wasn't enough, another cinematic was released as well. The Flames of Truth cinematic combines the original opening cinematic to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn along with the cinematic that plays after players beat the raid The Final Coil of Bahamut Turn 3(aka Turn 12). This cinematic also contains tiny spoilers for the Binding Coil of Bahamut storyline, so if you have yet to beat this raid in the game it is advisable not to watch.

During the rest of the live letter, players were treated to some new information for the expansion. Starting off there will be approximately 50 hours worth of story quests in Heavensward, with story content being expanded upon in subsequent patches as well. There will be new quests for both Disciples of War/Magic and for Disciples of Land/Hand to introduce new skills and abilities all the way to level 60. Speaking of jobs, the new jobs Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist will start at level 30, and every job will be getting their own unique Limit Break. New gear for all these jobs will be obtained with new Allagan Tomestones, in the form of Allagan Tomestones of Law(uncapped) and Allagan Tomestones of Esoterics(weekly cap).

9 new zones will be added, with each zone being 50-100% larger then the zones in A Realm Reborn. Flying mounts can be used in all new zones without any restrictions. Players will not be able to fly in older zones however, so everyone hoping they could fly around zones like Mor Dhona will be disappointed.

Grade V materia will be added along with a specialist system for Disciples of Hand using the new "Scrip" system. The Scrip system allows you to specialize in 3 Disciples of Hand, and will allow you access to special skills in those specializations. You can also use the "Scrip" system to change those specializations if you want too. The new "Divine Favor" system for Disciples of Land will be introduced to discover new gathering nodes as well.

8 new instanced dungeons will be added, along with both Normal and Hard mode versions of the new primals Ravana and Bismark. This time around, instead of the normal drop system, something akin to 1.0's primal token system will be implemented. A token system was put in place for players to get the loot they want from the instance without the need to run it an absurd amount of times. In addition the Fate, Levequests, and Hunt system will all be expanded on.

Hardcore raiders are in for a treat as well as the new raid Alexander will be split up into both Normal Mode and Savage Mode. Normal mode will be starting 2 weeks after Heavensward launches to allow players to enjoy the story and leveling experience. Savage Mode, along with the ability to collect Allagan Tomestones of Esoterics, will start 2 weeks after Normal mode. A new "Lootmaster" and "All Greed" systems has been put in place to stop all those greedy raid members. Lootmaster allows the leader to distribute loot to those that need it and All Greed will disable need rolls on items. You will also finally be able to change your roll from need to greed and vice versa in the case of those annoying mis-clicks.

Free Companies will also see a bit of an upgrade, with the addition of Free Company workshops which include the ability to craft airships. A new "Expeditionary" system will allow Free Companies to explore the sky, and is something that will be expanded upon in future updates. Frontlines PvP will also be getting a new zone, along with an updated rule set.

The Direct X11 client will also make its debut in the expansion and is sure to make an already beautiful game even that much prettier.

If you would like a more in depth look at all the new information you can check out the official forum posts on them here.
