Before the acclaimed Oblivion and widely popular Skyrim, in 2002 The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was released for PC and Xbox. With the blessing of Bethesda, fans have been working on remastering Morrowind with the Skyrim engine.

Titled Skywind, the project looks very impressive. The team has released a trailer showing off the Sheogorad territory, a remote archipelago comprising 36 islands of Vvardenfell, the main setting of Morrowind.

"We wanted to give this region new assets to help it stand out from other areas of Morrowind, and in turn, have changed its original formations," Skywind's creators stated in the comments underneath the video.

Being respectful to the source material while also making everything new and fresh seems to be the prime goal of the project; the team has also announced that when the game launches it will feature two hours of the original music.

Skywind had a public alpha in the summer but was later pulled because of it being in a "very alpha state" giving indications that the final product could still be far off. Be sure to check out the trailer below.
