In a recent Famitsu interview (which we reported on), the director of Kingdom Hearts III noted that while some aspects of the game's development were progressing smoothly, the studio was having some trouble working with the game's engine (Square Enix's Luminous Engine, which hosted Agni's Philosophy and will power the upcoming Final Fantasy XV).

It seems like those troubles have come to a head, as a new Famitsu interview with the director reports that the highly anticipated third numbered game in the series has switched to Unreal Engine 4. While Nomura's team is still reportedly having rendering issues with the new engine, working closely with Unreal Engine 4's production house Epic Games is helping keep development progressing smoothly.

We'll be sure to update you as new details from the interview crop up.
