With Beep: A Documentary of Video Game Music and Sound currently making the rounds on Kickstarter, one might think that our beloved medium is getting some long-overdue critical love. One would be right, because Beep isn't the only video game music-focused project hurtling towards the Kickstarter finish line.

The Players' Score: A Videogame Music Documentary is another such project. Per the creators, The Players' Score looks to "explore the cultural and personal impact of game music through live interviews with prominent videogame music cover bands, chiptune artists, and the composers who inspire them." The full-length feature documentary is headed up by a team of independent filmmakers, featuring a soundtrack by Jake "virt" Kaufman (Shovel Knight, among many other projects) and narration by Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson. The aim of the Kickstarter is to help the project gather funding to secure additional interviews with musicians from all over the world, as well as to support related production costs.

The team has already announced the involvement of numerous talents, including but not limited to Austin Wintory (The Banner Saga, Journey), Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana), Manami Matsumae (Mega Man, Shovel Knight), and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid series), as well as a number of VGM bands and chiptune artists like The Megas, The Triforce Quartet, Mega Ran, and Danimal Cannon.

In addition to the already-announced artists, RPGFan Music is also pleased to be able to report that Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, Dragon's Crown) will also be featured in the full-length documentary film. Sakimoto-san is a venerable name in the game music composing scene, with many years and tons of beloved scores under his belt, so it should be a great opportunity to hear his thoughts if this project is successfully funded!
