Developed by Mechanic Arms, Excave: Sorcerer of the Underworld is a new roguelike with heavy RPG elements coming to Nintendo 3DS in Japan.

The game has players chose either a male or female protagonist, each of whom have different specialities. The male hero specialises in powerful attacks and larger weapons such as the sword, great sword, spear, katana and axe. The female hero is faster, and uses weapons such as the bow, dual swords, rapier, and rod.

While there is a fairly simple story, the game's main focus is on traversing dungeons, upgrading your gear, and finding plenty of loot. Like many roguelikes, eating enough food and discovering the uses of items will be very important. Some dungeons are static, but others are randomly generated as you enter them.

Excave: Sorcerer of the Underworld will be released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan on July 16th.
