Tonight, Square Enix released a batch of media from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's next major patch, 2.2, called Through the Maelstrom. Like 2.1 back in December, the patch adds new dungeons and fights, namely Leviathan - a new Primal battle for which we'll see both a hard mode and extreme mode. We will also see the addition of turns 6 through 9 of the Binding Coil of Bahamut, a continuation of the Hildibrand storyline, a few new and old faces, a new tomestone currency, a 'glamour' system so players can choose what their gear will look like regardless of stats, and more.

The next Live Letter from the Producer, which will preview this patch as well as feature main scenario writer Kazutoyo Maehiro alongside the usual host, producer Naoki Yoshida, airs March 21st at 2:30 AM Pacific.

You'll find a number of new screenshots and a couple of pieces of artwork all below in our gallery. Patch 2.2 is expected in late March.
