Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 2.0: The Final Word
With 2.1 looming, our four review journal editors assign a final score to the content of FFXIV 2.0.

Reviewing an MMORPG is a strange thing. It's not nearly as cut and dry as a single player title; you can't simply finish up the game in a week, write out your thoughts, and slap a score on it. As online games evolve, so do the experiences of playing them. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's launch is a prime example of why you have to let things simmer a bit. The first couple weeks were hampered by server issues - the actual issue simply being that far more people wanted to play than Square Enix expected - but these were solved before September was out. At that point, the biggest flaw of playing (or trying to play) was a non-issue.

Then there's endgame content. This stuff usually takes some time to get to, especially if you, oh, I don't know, have a full-time job. As such, during each of our review journal entries, we didn't assign scores, as we all experienced more of the content. Now, with the massive 2.1 update two days away, we felt it was time to assign these scores, and say some final words on everything that encompassed the game's current iteration (2.0). Since each of our four journal entries were written by a different editor, this final update includes comments from each of us next to our scores.

To see what each of us thought, we present to you: Tales of The Emerald Shield: Book V.

As a fun bonus to Book V, we've also added a random assortment of 22 screen shots from our own journey through Eorzea, which you can see in page 5 of our gallery.

Look for initial thoughts on A Realm Awoken: FFXIV Patch 2.1 as soon as we've collected said thoughts!
