I bet you'll never guess what this game is a mashup of.

One of Gust's upcoming titles is the PlayStation 3 RPG Ar noSurge, and as you might have guessed from the name (or not), it's a combination of sorts of Ciel noSurge and Ar tonelico. Not only is Ar tonelico series director Akira Tsuchiya filling in the same role here (as is character designer ntny), but older versions of Ion and Cas from Ciel noSurge make an appearance in the game.

Ar noSurge stars Delta Lantanoil, who, as part of the PLASMA forces, has been protecting the technologically advanced town of Felion (and those living outside its walls from Sharl), who use song magic to kidnap humans who can't communicate. Only now he's since left the group - made up of an ancient race awakened from a cold-sleep - and now runs a diner. His partner is a humanoid weapon called Acies.

Felion is now ruled by a 'heaven ruler' princess who, after a thousand years of sleep, woke up to find the city, then a labour camp, had people living outside the partition wall. Opening it up, Felion would later become a technologically advanced hub of activity for humans. Delta appeared when the wall opened, and so did someone who can no longer use ancient song magic.

In battle, Delta protects the main heroine, who stays in the back and performs song magic. Though the combat system is turn-based, there will be action portions to it as well. Delta's attacks will fill up the Harmonics gauge, which can then be used for song magic by the heroine. Few can use song magic, but some other creatures besides the heroine do possess the ability. It's also possible to switch between Delta and Acies throughout the game.

Ar noSurge goes on sale in Japan on January 30th. Be sure to check out our gallery below!
