Final Fantasy VI Heads To iOS, Android
An iOS game I won't be able to resist. You got me, Square.

In news that will surprise no one considering all their mobile re-releases to date, Square Enix has made Final Fantasy VI for iOS and Android official. Supposedly, this isn't a direct port either - the 2D look will be sharpened (such as with FFV's mobile release) and players need not grind as much as in the original game. To date, the 1994 SNES classic has gotten a PSone port with a handful of 3D cutscenes as part of the FF Anthology (this version would later be released on its own on PSN), and a Game Boy Advance port.

Producer and director Takashi Tokita also expressed his wish to bring Final Fantasy VII - and beyond - to smartphones one day, acknowledging that VII has a large fanbase and, of course, several fans on staff at Square itself.

Final Fantasy VI for iOS and Android is due out sometime this winter. Fitting, considering the game's snowy opening scene...
