New Pokémon X & Y Media, Special Edition 3DSes Head West
Time for a mega-evolution.
09.04.13 - 12:33 PM

This morning, Nintendo held a special Nintendo Direct presentation focused on Pokémon, revealing a little more on Pokémon X & Y as well as announcing the release of the special Pokémon 3DS XL systems out West. The red and blue handhelds feature artwork of the new Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal and will release on September 27th for $199.99 US each.

As for the mega evolutions, it was revealed during the presentation that players will have a choice of Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle as a partner Pokémon. Evolve them into Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise and obtain the Mega Ring as well as that Pokémon's unique Mega Stone, and you can then evolve them into their 'mega' forms, with new powers. You'll find a bit of gameplay below as well as new screenshots and artwork in our gallery.

Also announced was a Pokémon Bank, a 3DS app where players can store their Pokémon online - up to 3,000, and up to 100 Boxes, and you can store Pokémon from multiple copies of X & Y here and transfer them into a single game. There will be an annual fee for this service, though the price was not announced. There is also a Poké Transporter, which, as the name suggests, makes transferring your Pokémon between games (even Black & White and their sequels) fairly easy.

Pokémon X & Y both go on sale on October 12th.
