Wish your JRPGs had more of a classic fairy tale flair? Well wish no further. The small yet competent scaled Ubisoft project, Child of Light, may be your answer. The game is being built in the Ubi Art Framework. Sound familiar? The Ubi Art engine was used to develop the gorgeous Rayman Origins. So if you're a sucker for pretty visuals, start saving up now.

Patrick Plourde, the game's director, has stated that this is very much an art heavy game, harkening back to "The Golden Age of Illustration" when children's books featured dreamy and intricate artwork. Using the Ubi Art engine, Plourde and his team aim to take something like Yoshita Amano (Final Fantasy I-X artist) style concept art and bring it to life as actual in game graphics, rather than limiting sprites and pixels.

Inspired by fairy tales and classic Square Enix titles, specifically Final Fantasy VI, Child of Light tells a coming-of-age story about a young girl who “physically and mentally grows up” through her journey. As an interesting side note, one third of the development team is female, which I personally believe will help improve the personality and believability of the game's female protagonist (which is much needed in the genre and video game industry as a whole).

Though details are still sparse, this is definitely a title look out for in the near future. Plourde hinted that a formal announcement for Child of Light will come in the early parts of September. The game is slated for release on major consoles and PC.
