At a Tokyo event yesterday, it was revealed that Vanille will be returning for Lightning's final chapter. According to director Motomu Toriyama, "This time, Vanille is being sheltered by a religious organization, known as the 'House of Salvation,' who control the city of Luxerion."

Also mentioned was that there will be regional based shops that will sell purely cosmetic gear, in case you get a hankering for playing dress-up. Here are a few screens showing some of Lightning's different colored outfits:

Using previous saves will also allow you to dress Lightning in outfits from not only Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2, but even Yuna's summoner garb from Final Fantasy X. First Cloud's SOLDIER outfit and the Miqo’te outfit from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and now this? Who knew Lightning was such a cosplay fan? These cosmetic items won't have an affect on the stats of the characters, though there will be plenty of focus on equipment that will. New to the game is performance-based customization built on the player's preferred playing style. They're categorizing them into three main types: Balanced, Magic, and Physical-type. For instance, would-be mages will be able to tweak their Lightning to minimize physical attacks in favor of magic, while more rough-and-tumble types could focus more on HP and physical attacks.

A fourth continent was also revealed, named The Wildlands. In addition to the other three areas (the capitol of Luxerion, the Dead Dunes, and the city of Yusnaan), The Wildlands will be a more of an open-world area and can be traveled by chocobo. There may be new areas to explore after completing the story portion of the game as well, complete with more difficult enemies, though exactly how difficult they will be is still being decided on. Finally, for you shopping fans, it was announced that Lightning Returns will sport over 100 different types of shops.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is the final chapter in the Lightning saga. It is set to release November 21st, 2013 in Japan, February 11th, 2014 in North America, and then February 13th and 14th in Australia and Europe, respectively. It will appear on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
