Drakengard 3 Offers In-Battle Weapon Swapping
Learn about this and more weapon-based facts inside.

One of this year's surprise announcements was a third game in the Drag-On Dragoon (Drakengard to you and I) series. Releasing this fall in Japan, we don't have a confirmation of a North American release yet, but we refer to it using its English title anyway because... well, we can.

So! We have some details on Drakengard 3's weapons, thanks to Siliconera. We've been used to swapping weapons via menu in previous games, but in an effort to up the pace of battle, Drakengard 3 will allow you to switch weapons mid-battle without leaving the action. Not only can you switch mid-battle, but mid-combo, which should drastically increase both the variety and strategy involved in fighting the many evil... things you'll do battle with.

We learned a little about a couple weapon types — sword and spears, specifically. As you may guess, swords are a well-rounded weapon, featuring average power and generally quick speed, that helps protagonist Zero increase her Tension Gauge. Increasing your tension can bring you to Excited State and, well, I'm just going to let that speak for itself.

Spears are a heavy weapon, and while slower than swords, can break through an enemy's defenses, and allows Zero to perform different abilities such as a slick dash attack. Along with all this weapon-swapping goodness, you'll also be able to summon your dragon companion to assist in land-based battles.

Before you go, be sure to check out sixteen new screen shots in our Drakengard 3 gallery.

Drakengard 3 for PlayStation 3 releases on October 31st in Japan in both regular and really nice limited edition versions.
