For their 20th anniversary, Nippon Ichi Software is working on their next PlayStation 3 RPG, titled Battle Princess of Arcadia. The titular character, a red-headed princess from Schwert Kingdom named Plume, who, like all the other countries' princesses in the game, fight with swords to protect their respective kingdom. And with good reason. The continent, Weltecs, is increasingly plagued with all kinds of monsters, including a huge one who wiped out many of Plume's soldiers and subjects. The loss of many lives and her failure to stop the creature sets Plume into motion as she takes up a sword and goes off to do battle.

Each of the battle princesses are in a similar position, and so they all travel about the continent fending off these beasts. Plume and the others have access to over 900 different weapons, and they'll also evolve and change, as each has its own skills and properties. Plume herself is quick with a one-handed sword, but she can also rely on melee attacks such as kicks.

Plume isn't without help, however. The bow-wielding Larts, Plume's new attendant (who help her both in battle and in day-to-day life), is quiet but has good common sense, and so is very willing to help her. He lacks strength, and keeps at a distance in a fight. The foul-mouthed Yumi is an old friend of Plume's and an industrial artist - meaning she can do minor repairs around the castle, and also create items as the king asks. In any case, she's not happy about Larts' appointment, and sticks close to him and Plume, bringing her magic skills into battle. Despite his current goose form, Shiguto is actually Plume's (normally very human, if not for a certain event) brother, the king. He and Plume are very close. The kings' reigns are often short due to illnesses passed down the line.

Battle Princess of Arcadia's battle system supports three characters in a party and relies mostly on button combo attacks and switching between the three characters as the situation arises, as all three play differently. Levelling up gains you more special attacks and abilities like double jumps, and even team attacks with the rest of your party.

Battle Princess of Arcadia for PS3 goes on sale September 26th in Japan, with no mention yet for North America. You can check out our gallery below for lots of screens and artwork!
