Boston's VGO To Perform RPG-Centric Show
A full orchestra with special performances from Sakimoto and Iwadare? Sign me up!
08.27.12 - 9:06 PM

Boston-based music group The Video Game Orchestra (VGO) will be hosting a concert at the Boston Symphony Hall on Sunday, October 7. In attendance as special guests and special performers will be three Japanese composers: Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Valkyria Chronicles, et al), Noriyuki Iwadare (Lunar, Grandia, et al) and Kinuyo Yamashita (Castlevania, Mega Man X3, et al). The entire night will feature music primarily from these guest composers; as such, it will be a JRPG-heavy song selection for the orchestra, which will also have a rock band and choir in place for the show.

Via twitter, VGO founder Shota Nakama has already confirmed a lengthy (15 minute) Grandia series medley for Iwadare. We don't know yet if any Lunar music will be played, and we have no idea what all from Sakimoto's large collection of work will be arranged.

As for Yamashita-san, her bibliography isn't JRPG-heavy, but her early work with Konami includes music for two Japan-only Famicom action RPGs: Esper Dream (1 and 2). Retired RPGFan veteran Patrick Gann wrote up a review of the rare soundtrack for this game to help promote the show and Yamashita's appearance at the show, and you'll be able to check it out very soon!

Tickets start at $40 for regular admission and scale all the way up to $100 for VIP seats and access to a special meet-and-greet with the composers after the show.
