Final Fantasy XIV has been somewhat of a blemish on the franchise's storied history, but things are about to change with the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (formerly known as version 2.0). For those who haven't been following the game, A Realm Reborn is a from-the-ground-up reboot featuring a brand new graphical engine, rebuilt areas, new races, a revamped combat system, a new user interface (designed to be friendly to both PC and PS3 users), and so much more. This revamp is tied into the game's lore, as the end of the current version of Final Fantasy XIV will be marked by a cataclysm that players are powerless to prevent. Media has been scarce, besides a few screenshots that trickled out around E3, but the first trailer has arrived today in all its CG splendor. Witness the might of the forces conspiring to annihilate Eorzea below:

Square Enix promises to continually update the game's website with new assets and information at regular intervals. We'll continue to report whenever significant updates are released. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is scheduled to go into beta testing later this year.
