This morning, Bethesda and parent company Zenimax announced The Elder Scrolls Online, which is just what it sounds like - an MMO based on the popular western RPG series. Developed by Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online takes place one millennium before Skyrim, and will see Molag Bal, the daedric prince, attempting to drag all of Tamriel inside his realm.

The project has been in the works for several years, says game director Matt Firor (Dark Age of Camelot), who adds that the team is hoping to create the 'best MMO ever made' and one worthy of its namesake. The inclusion of three different player factions ensure lots of player-driven PvP as they fight over the province of Cyrodiil and the emperor's throne.

We should see a teaser trailer and a first screenshot for The Elder Scrolls Online tomorrow, and lots more details in June's issue of GameInformer. The Elder Scrolls Online will be released sometime in 2013 for both PC and Mac.
