We've talked about smuttlewerk interactive's iPad-only RPG Companions before. Today, the company has launched a new RPG, and those without access to an iPad should be glad to know this one is Universal, and runs on the iPhone and iPod touch too.

Time of Heroes is a turn-based strategy game set in Altland, where players are thrust in the middle of a conflict between the dwarves, elves, and why not, legions of undead and demons loyal to the dark god Detexx. Taking place 400 years before the events of Companions, Time of Heroes features 6 playable heroes, 6 different units to control, over 25 enemy types, and 3 levels of difficulty to appeal to a wide range of player skill sets.

Today's release is the game's first chapter, Time of Heroes – The Arrival. The second chapter, Time of Heroes – The Prophet's Revenge, is scheduled to be available "soon," according to the developers.

We have a new gallery with the game's first screen shots below, and Time of Heroes is available now on the App Store for $0.99 [iTunes link] - a three-day sale price, after which the title goes to its regular price point of $2.99.
