Looks like that first trailer paid off.

So Dead Island has been out for three weeks as of today. You've been killing vacation-ruining zombies with all sorts of weapons, like bats, chainsaws, assorted guns and weapons in between. But let's revisit the game's initial trailer, shall we? You know, the heart-wrenching one?

Doesn't tell you too much about the game, does it? Maybe not, but regardless, it was an extremely popular and highly-viewed clip back in February. Apparently, what it did do was inspire movie ideas. As a matter of fact, today it was announced that the entertainment company Lionsgate has picked up the film rights to Dead Island. The movie, based on the trailer, is said to 'be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling.' Lionsgate has named the producers as Sean Daniel (The Mummy, Dazed and Confused) and Stefan Sonnenfeld.

An estimated date for Dead Island hasn't been set.
