If you've been playing RPGs for any length of time, especially on PC, chances are you've at least heard of Gravity's Ragnarok Online. The wildly popular (at 50,000,000 players worldwide) MMORPG has been around since 2002, and with with a sequel coming one day, and 2008's release of Ragnarok Online DS, it looks like the series may still be around for awhile. Also, 50,000,000 players.

The latest title to spin off of the original Ragnarok Online is Ragnarok Violet, which, besides being my favorite color, will combine the action RPG-ness of the PC game with quick game play suited for mobile devices, in this case, the iPhone and iPad (and, we assume, iPod touch, but it is not mentioned specifically in the press release). Ragnarok Violet will employ several of Ragnarok Online's game systems, such as item enchanting, card collecting, character costumes, the pet system and more. In addition, Violet will improve upon the original with a better weapon swapping method and a new item creation system.

Ragnarok Violet is launching on August 5th in the App Store (at least in North America; the game has already been released and seen success in Japan for weeks), for a price that will guarantee many of you will at least try it: free.
