Mega Man Legends 3 Project Cancelled
Unfortunately, many saw this coming.

Last October, Capcom announced Mega Man Legends 3, a long-awaited threequel whose first two installments were both PlayStation titles. Later, they would also announce Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version, which was to essentially be a 'paid demo' of the game, available on the 3DS eShop at launch. Capcom planned to gauge interest in MML3 by sales of and reception to Prototype Version, but as time passed, nothing was seen at E3, the eShop opened last month... and Prototype was delayed without ever getting a new date.

Today on Capcom Unity was the bad news that many feared would come: The Mega Man Legends 3 Project is now cancelled. According to the blog, the cancellation was due to the project not living up to certain criteria laid out by Capcom, and not related to the departure of Keiji Inafune from the company last fall. Furthermore, fans whose ideas were chosen for use in the project should expect some kind of commemorative gift at a later date - and they could also use their ideas elsewhere if they choose.

This of course means that we won't be seeing the Prototype Version, either. The full FAQ on the project's cancellation can be found here.
