If you're into gaming on your iOS device, there's a good chance you've heard of RocketCat Games, a small dev studio who has made themselves famous for games based on a swinging mechanic with excellent pixel art, such as Hook Champ and its followup Super QuickHook.

Of course, these aren't RPGs, but when RocketCat recently revealed their next game: An action RPG by the name of Mage Gauntlet. Here's a few screens, graciously sourced from Touch Arcade:

As you can see, Mage Gauntlet evokes some serious nostalgia from anyone with a love of 8-bit and 16-bit RPGs. If you loved action RPGs like, say, Terranigma, this is something you'll want to keep an eye on.

The story follows Lexi, who longs to be a wizard's apprentice. Lexi is able to absorb and expel magic from magical gauntlets. The game features a full leveling system, an unlockable game mode (with more planned for the future), plenty of achievements and secrets, and more. We hope to learn more soon about the game.

Mage Gauntlet is due to release sometime in August, and per RocketCat tradition, will launch at a sale price of $1.99 before going to its normal price of $2.99. Early buyers will gain access to the RocketCat Fan Pack, which according to the game's website contains, "a rocketcat pet that will follow you around and give a small stat boost! Also contains seven hats and one sandwich you can wear as a hat." Tell me you can't love a developer that gives you a free sandwich hat. Valve, are you listening? The Fan Pack will be a free bonus for early adopters, or available as a $2 in-app-purchase later on.
