Release Date, Title Confirmed For Xenogears Orchestral Album
Are you ready to celebrate the Myth?
12.25.10 - 11:46 PM

Twitter was ablaze in the last month or two with news from Yasunori Mitsuda that he was working on some orchestral project with Square Enix related to his much-beloved score for the PlayStation cult-classic RPG Xenogears.

We now have more details on the album. First of all, an official site for the album is active (see link below). Second, the album will be called "Myth: The Xenogears Orchestral Album." Third, the album will be released on February 23, 2011 in Japan.

What we don't know yet:

- The full tracklist. Mitsuda and Square Enix polled fans for favorite tracks to use, and the results of that poll were posted. How faithfully the team chooses to stick to that poll, no one can know until the tracklist is revealed.
- What is the purpose of doing this album? This isn't a 10-year or 15-year anniversary, the PSN release in Japan happened years ago, and as far as we know, no remake is planned. Furthermore, fans are still waiting for that Chrono Cross arranged album. Happy as many fans are, there is still suspicion that this project has more purpose than the music itself. What that purpose is, remains to be seen.

Check out the site by clicking the link below. The background music is currently playing OST tracks, but with luck, that will change as time passes to some samples of the new album.
