Level 5 today announced the obvious in revealing that it was working on a third Inazuma Eleven game. The first two installments in the popular soccer-themed RPG series have sold more than 1.5 million copies to date.

Like its two prequels, Inazuma Eleven 3: Sekai he no Chousen (Challenge to the World) is in development for DS. As the title suggests, the third game will pitch a Japanese national soccer team captained by protagonist Mamoru Endou against the world's greatest players. The Japanense team is set to include series favorites Yuuto Kidou, Shuuya Gouenji, Shirou Fubuki and Hiroto Kiyama.

Owners of Inazuma Eleven 2 will be no doubt happy to hear that thanks to a feature called "2-3 super link" special party members from Inazuma Eleven 2 can be exported to the sequel.

Inazuma Eleven 3 will be available in Japan sometime this summer.
