The series' second console entry comes with a giant twist.

With Rune Factory 3 nearing release in North America, don't you think it's about time we got an announcement on the NEXT game in the series? So did Marvelous Entertainment, as the company announced today that Rune Factory Oceans is coming to Japan early next year.

Rune Factory Oceans will be only the second game in the series to be released on a console (vs. handheld), following the Wii's Rune Factory Frontier. As you might imagine, the new entry contains the same trademark elements as other Rune Factory games - which in a nutshell is Harvest Moon's sim and dating aspects plus combat and dungeon exploration. In Oceans, players can control both a male and female protagonist - Azel and Sonia, respectively - so unlike Harvest Moon, there's no need to wait for a separate "girl" version if you prefer a female.

The 'giant' twist I mentioned isn't as large as it is literal: Exploring the game's oceans takes place on a back of Ymir, a giant… giant, seen in the tiny image below. Not only can Ymir can move islands around, but battles even take place on board, so it's probably safe to say you'll be spending a lot of time there.

Rune Factory Oceans will support the PlayStation Move controller, so players will very possibly get a similar gameplay experience on both the PlayStation 3 and Wii. The game is due for release on February 24th, 2011 in Japan.
