TGS 2010: Disgaea 4 Details & First Trailer
HD Prinnies: They really are a by-product of Hell.

Nippon Ichi Software held its own press conference at this year's Tokyo Game Show, revealing what many Disgaea fans have been waiting for: Disgaea 4. Headed to the PlayStation 3, the turn-based strategy RPG is getting a bit of an overhaul, with a brand new graphics engine and more emphasis on an 'anime' look. Takehito Harada is the game's character designer, and players will have an option to swap between HD character sprites or anime graphics.

The story takes place in - where else? - the netherworld, which is populated by vampires, werewolves, zombies and ghosts among others. The characters introduced so far are:

  • Valvatorez, a vampire whom the entire world seems to fear, apparently doesn't suck blood

  • Phenlif, a werewolf servant of Valvatorez

  • Fuuka Kazamatsuri, always seen wearing a Prinny hat

  • Prinny, because this just wouldn't be a Disgaea game without them.

There will also be an online 'data-sharing' feature, encouraging players to 'share what they have created' (what this means, we're not quite sure yet).

Japan will be getting both a regular and special edition of Disgaea 4, as well. The special edition includes a game setting fan book, an original soundtrack CD, and a special package which includes a miniature figure of one of the characters from the game. The pre-order bonus for either edition is a character art collectible card of Fallen Angel Flonne from the original Disgaea. The special edition will cost 9500 yen ($110.85 US), and the standard edition is 6800 yen ($79.34 US).

Disgaea 4 will be out in Japan on February 24, 2011. NIS America announced that they will release the title in North America sometime next summer.
