Strategy, but shrunken!

Valkyria Chronicles was a fan favorite for the PS3 and the developers have been able to provide us with a brand new title. This time, though, players will take control of the forces of Gallia, who would be at peace, except for one thing... civil war. Taking control of cadets from a military academy, players must take guerrilla tactics and defeat the rebel army and bring peace back to their homeland.

Gameplay for this new handheld title mimics its console cousin well. With my short time with the game, I couldn't tell a discernible difference from the PS3 title. The maps are split up into smaller segments to fit on the PSP, but it doesn't hurt the game at all. The entire mission will be about the same size, it's just with bite-size portions. The only big change is that players will use the PSP's analog nub for wider controls and the D-pad for more exact control.

One thing that players will be happy with is the ability to customize their classes and main character. Classes can be improved upon and specialized further, although we weren't able to take a look at this in action on our demo. As well, the main character's class can be changed, so players won't be limited to the character in the tank like the first game.

Fans of Valkyria Chronicles will love the second game, especially with it being on the go. Keep watch to RPGFan for more on Valkyria Chronicles 2 as it gets closer to release.
