Koei today announced a new installment in its Zill O'll series. Titled Trinity Zill O'll ZERO, the PlayStation 3 game is an action RPG in development at the company's Omega Force team, the creative minds behind the Musou franchise. Previous installments of the Zill O'll franchise on PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable were traditional turn-based RPGs. Jun Suemi, known for his work on the Wizardry series, is serving as character designer, while Yoshihiro Ike (who previously worked on Romance of the Three Kingdoms 10 and 11) is composing the soundtrack. Shinsuke Satou, who served as movie director of the Musou"> series, is in charge of direction and scenario. Currently, the game's development is 30% complete.

Apparently, the development team which has traditionally worked on action titles, such as the Dynasty Warriors franchise, was looking for a new challenge. As a result, Trinity Zill O'll ZERO will merge one of Omega Team's strengths, i.e. action-oriented battles, with the series' free scenario system. Another key feature of the game will be interactive fields. This system will allow the player to use the environment to his or her advantage. Players will start out with a party of three characters, each possessing different strengths.

Trinity Zill O'll ZERO for PlayStation 3 will be available in Japan this winter.
