Monolith Soft and Banpresto Team Up
01.11.08 - 10:11 AM

Banpresto and Monolith Soft have joined forces in creating an original RPG for DS. Titled Mugen no Frontier Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, the game is described as an RPG inheriting the DNA of Banpresto's Super Robot Taisen Original Generations. The game's supervisor is none other than Super Robot Taisen mastermind Takanobu Terada. Banpresto's Kensuke Tsukanaka is acting as the game's producer, while Monolith Soft's Kouji Ishitani and Souichirou Morizumi are serving as development producer and director respectively. After joining Monolith Soft from Banpresto, Morizumi worked on Namco x Capcom, while Monolith Soft veteran Ishitani has been involved in the development of Xenosaga Episode I, Baten Kaitos and Namco x Capcom.

Mugen no Frontier's protagonist is a 23-year old bounty hunter by the name of Harken Browning. He commands a space ship called Zeit Krokodil (German for Time Crocodile) and is described as cool and nihilistic. The game's heroine is Kaguya Nanbu, an 18-year old princess. As per her family's customs, she has to do a pilgrimage. On this pilgrimage, she meets Harken. Watching over Kaguya is Suzuka Hime. Ashen Breydel is an android traveling with Harken. Ashen is Harken's subordinate. A machine gun is installed inside her leg and she possesses a powerful rocket punch.

Players will move from one town to another on a standard overworld map. Once inside a town, they can choose a location they want to visit from a menu. Mugen no Frontier will feature random encounter battles. These battles promise to be very action-oriented. Players can execute lengthy combo attacks by subsequently pressing various buttons. Last but not least, robots are also set to appear in battle. One screenshot shows a big robot helping the party out with a support attack.

Mugen no Frontier Super Robot Taisen OG Saga will be available in Japan sometime this spring.
