Square Enix Announces Next-Gen RPG
05.08.07 - 12:34 PM

Square Enix today announced a new next-generation RPG titled The Last Remnant. The company has yet to announce specific platforms for this new title. However, since the game is being based on Epic Game's Unreal Engine 3, a release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is likely. Hiroshi Takai, who previously worked on the PlayStation 2 title The Bouncer as a planner, is directing the game.

Players will be able to choose between two main characters: Rush, a traditional hero like the ones that have starred in previous Square Enix RPGs, and a dark anti-hero. The latter supposedly is aimed at western gamers. While being described as a rather action-oriented title, The Last Remnant will still employ a turn-based battle system.

The Last Remnant will hit retail store shelves sometime next year. Square Enix is aiming for a simultaneous release in various markets.
