Level 5 Confirms Development of Next-gen Game
05.15.06 - 4:50 PM

In his column in Famitsuu PS2, Level 5 president Akihiro Hino wrote about the creation of his company's own motion capturing studio. Hino explained the need for the studio with the capability to create higher quality visuals for next generation platforms. While Hino described the various difficulties his company is experiencing with the new studio, he also confirmed that Fukuoka-based Level 5 was already hard at work on a game for next generation consoles. Specifically, Hino explained: "I want try and create an even more epic fantasy title on the stage that are the next-generation platforms".

Describing fantasy games as simple "lies", Hino pointed out the fact that there is no magic or monsters in real life. However, since as a game maker he wants users to enjoy a fantasy world full of monsters and magic, he aims at creating "believable lies". With the new in-house motion capturing capabilities, he hopes to add more reality to his "lies". Referring to an old RPG he played himself, Hino explained it was full of characters looking not like humans, strangely shaped buildings and plants and monsters he had not seen before. While he describes that style as progressive for its time, the game did not manage to touch him emotionally, because it contained too many "lies". The high specs of the next generation platforms allowed developers to balance fantasy elements and realism in their games. A human protagonist for instance should move like a real human being. Hino closed by saying he wanted to invite fans to his new next-generation fantasy world soon. RPGFan will keep you posted on all new developments concerning Level 5.
