02.08.06 - 10:05 PM

Capcom today reported its financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year ending on March 31st. The Osaka-based company reported a net profit of 7.43 billion yen ($62.71 million US) on sales of 47.93 billion yen ($404.50 million US). Compared to same period of the previous fiscal year, sales were up 12.8%, while profit rose by 418.1%.

The biggest contributor to these numbers was the consumer game software division which posted sales of 29.32 billion yen ($247.45 million US) and an operating profit of 2.30 billion yen ($19.41 million US). Capcom reported strong sales of Biohazard 4 (Resident Evil 4), Monster Hunter Portable for PlayStation Portable and Rockman EXE 6 (Megaman Battle Network 6) for Game Boy Advance. Outside Japan, the company's budget releases turned out to be quite successful during the critical holiday season.

Apart from the launch of Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Revolution and the resulting three-way next-generation console war, the company mentioned an increasingly fierce competition between game makers, the very harsh winter and the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy as potential factors influencing the game industry's market environment over the coming months. As far as its results for the full fiscal year are concerned, Capcom has left its projections for the full fiscal year 2005/2006 unchanged.
